trade

Monday, February 28, 2011

remember this quilt?
the one i made for riley?
the one that his mama and i
traded our talents for?

well.....
she recently brought over
her side of the trade.
it is perfect!

sabre finally has
his very own portrait.
bailey has one.
sampson (who is no longer with us) has one.
even bella (my parent's dog) has one.

alicia does great work.
if you want a portrait for yourself
or a loved one.
check out her website.
and place an order.

he sings, again

Sunday, September 19, 2010

b used to sing alot.
he had favorite songs.
sang to a couple of commercials on tv.
he enjoyed singing.
he even taught s to sing,
to be his back up singer.

and then he stopped singing.
it was shortly after bean was born.
this made us sad.

and then this weekend.
we played his favorite song,
just to see if he would sing.
and he did.

this makes us so happy.
and hopefully it will make you happy too.

stuck

Thursday, April 1, 2010

i feel like i am stuck in that movie, groundhog day, except for it is april fools.

let me tell you why....

it all began at 3 am wednesday morning, when ph had a hard time getting the bean to go back to sleep after his feeding. we all three had just dozed off to dream land, when we hear b walking, no running downstairs because he wanted to go outside. this means one thing and one thing only, he has an upset stomach and a case of major diarrhea is in his future. ph jumps out of bed to let him out. i then hear this thud and stream of expletives. i think to myself, he just fell down the stairs and then i start to giggle. yes, i am one of those people that giggles when people fall down. i am laughing as i type this. ph and bailey return from their trip outside, when sabre decides to get up and go downstairs. now, the whole house is awake. we eventually doze off when bean decides to wake at 5:30, i convince him to go back to sleep for a little bit, like 30 minutes.

i get up to feed him and realize that he is not going back to sleep. i will see the morning news shows in their entirety this morning. we leave the house at 9:45 to go to a friends house for brunch. a friend was in town and she wanted to see all the new babies. now there is a little voice inside my head that tells me that i should stay home, bean is not having a good morning. do i listen to that voice? nope, i carry on. bad move. i will listen to that voice from now on. i promise. bean screamed all the way there, most of the time we were there and all the way home. ph pulled in the driveway as i was getting out of the car, to find me sobbing in the drive way.

we walk into the house, look at each other and say "why does it smell like dog poop?" i enter the computer room and see a big runny pile of poop. i cry harder. of all the places to poop in the house, b has to go in the room with carpet. ph spends the next hour cleaning b's hind end. this is quite a task on a 130 pound white dog. the rest of the evening was relatively uneventful. oh wait, there was that moment when i was getting out of the bathtub that my incision starting oozing stuff. i freaked out. called the dr on call and was told it was probably a stitch that was infected and had managed to free itself. no cause for panic. good to know, here i was thinking my entire gut was going to open up.

this morning, bean and i went for a long walk. its nice outside and i am hoping he will sleep. upon our return i notice that our mailbox looks a little funny. and why are there white cards all over the driveway. it dawns on me that someone has hit our mailbox. those are my thank you notes all over the drive way and the front of the mailbox is halfway up the drive way. what is wrong with people. someone smacked the hell out of our mailbox and kept on driving. nice. so if you get a thank you note that is a little dirty, now you know why.

and bailey, well we should just take him to car wash to clean his rear end this afternoon. seriously it is a lost cause. at least it is close to 80 degrees outside.

how is your april fools day going?

a glimpse

Friday, March 26, 2010

last night after three attempts to get the bean to go to sleep, i crawled into bed and breathed a sigh of relief when my head hit the pillow. i was off duty, the day was over and sleep was just around the corner.

as i settled in, precious husband, who had been watching the back of his eyelids for some time, snuggled up to me. he then said " did you take your medicine?" i realized he was asleep and i wasn't sure what he was talking about so i replied " yes". he then asked again " you did take your medicine?" i think to myself, what is he talking about. so, i ask, "what medicine?" his response "your grumpy medicine."

what do you think is he trying to tell me?

_____________________________________________________________

this morning i am in the nursery trying to get the bean to take a morning nap, which by the way was a complete disaster. after an hour and a half of him falling asleep, me putting him down, him waking up 10 minutes later, i gave up. he is currently in the baby k'tan fighting the need to sleep.
but i digress, while the bean and i were doing our dance, b came in the room and was nosing around. he walks up to the crib, peers inside and starts sniffing the air. he is looking for the bean, i say to myself, how cute. i then notice that the hair behind his ears is starting to stick out, a sure sign that wildness is just around the corner. he is also staring very intently into the corner of the crib and starts to whine. it then dawns on me that he wants the stuffed moose that is in the crib.

i sure hope that the bean picks his blanket to be his "lovey" and not a stuffed animal.

thief

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

for the past two days we have had two incidents of theft here on newberry lane. all iphones, computers, electronics and jewelry are accounted for, but the bean is down two stuffed animals. we do however, know who the thief is, a 130 pound, 4 legged white ball of fluff. yes, b is guilty as charged.

you see great pyrenees love stuffed animals and toys. i can not tell you how many are buried in our back yard. b will dig one up to show us and then rebury it. my parents pyrenees, bella also buries her babies, but she leaves the heads above ground so they can breathe.

you would think that i would notice such a large thief, but he is sneaky.

yesterday he went into the bean's closet and took his new stuffed monkey. he did this while i was in the room, but i was busy with the bean. he then proceeded to bury it in the living room. well, he went through the motions of burying it. we don't have the heart to tell him that we can see it. several hours later he "dug" it up to show me his treasure. i just looked at him and said, "well i guess it is your monkey now."

oh b....

this morning i was downstairs on the computer feeling pretty happy with myself because the bean was napping in his crib for the third morning in a row. when all of a sudden i hear this strange noise coming through the monitor. i hit the video button and all i saw was snow. weird. i listened a little longer and heard the bean, since i could not see him i decided to go upstairs. when i reach the top of the stairs i see b coming out of his room, he had opened the door, and he was nudging the sleepy turtle on the floor. you know the turtle that shows stars on the ceiling, it has a hard shell and a soft head. b had the turtle out on its back and was trying to get it to play with him. he had this wild look in his eye. i picked it up and he started hopping and jumping trying to get it. i had to quickly jump into the nursery and close the door fast, he was on the move. i promptly hid the turtle in the closet where he cant reach it and closed the door. when i let him in, he was looking for it and was most upset that it was gone. needless to say the bean woke up.

oh b.......

a dogs life

Friday, March 5, 2010

remember this post about our four legged family members?

well, they are shall we say adjusting to life with the bean. some days they are perfect angels, and other days, they are jealous siblings.

** every time we leave the house with the bean, they always make sure that we return with him. they both have to look in the car seat, to see for themselves that he is indeed here to stay and that we have not come home emptied handed.

** sabre likes to lick bean's head, bailey would prefer to rest his head on top of bean. we advise against that behavior.

** sabre is angry because he cant see into the hammock. we had it closer to the couch with cooper and sabre would peer in every time he made a squeak. now he sits on the floor and stares up at the hammock with a most disgruntled look on his face because he cant see the bean.

** the other night, bailey decided to eat our dinner of left over short ribs while we were not looking. they were on the counter and precious husband walked in, to find bailey on his hind legs, with his front paws on the counter, licking the last of short ribs from his mouth. oh bailey.

** bailey also got a bark collar this week. it has helped to control his barking. i was terribly afraid that the bean's first words were going to be "bailey no". now we have a chance that they might be something more touching.

**both dogs are the only ones around here that are getting any sleep. they could care less when we get up in the middle of the night.

thankfully, neither one of them has eaten a poopy diaper, but i am guessing it is only a matter of time.

crazy for pizza

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

i think i have said this before, but precious husband loves pizza. seriously, he would eat it every night if i let him. he never grows tired of it. tuesday is pizza night in our house. precious husband gets his pizza and i get a night off from cooking. b loves pizza as much as precious husband. and he knows what tuesday night is and will steal your pizza if you are not watching.

since our house is still all out of sorts, we had pizza in bed last night, while watching a little tv.
i took a moment to document b's quest for the crust, which ended in victory, as it does every tuesday night.

dreaming of a white christmas

Thursday, December 24, 2009

wishing you and yours a happy christmas eve.

this morning

Thursday, November 12, 2009

i woke to a back yard covered with leaves. seriously, all the leaves were on the tree yesterday and they fell over night, a sure sign that winter is on its way.

so, i took the time to shuffle around in them, before my precious husband rakes them up this afternoon, and document the change of seasons. i do love the sound of leaves rustling under my feet. and B well he watched the last few leaves flutter to the ground and rolled around in the leaves, practicing his snow angels, in anticipation of the first snow.

canine behavior

Thursday, October 29, 2009

these are our two dogs... bailey and sabre. it is important to note that bailey, the big white bear is my dog, and sabre, the small lap dog is my precious husband's. it should also be noted that these two dogs are the very best of friends and are entertaining to watch play together.

before cooper was born we were curious as to how they would react. i grew up with pyrs and knew that they are excellent with children, very protective and loyal beyond belief, so i wasn't really worried about him being jealous of cooper or hurting him. of course, when we brought cooper home they were very curious and soon settled into their roles. s was very vigilant about watching cooper, he would sit on the couch and keep a watchful eye on him sleeping in his hammock. and any peep he made, and he was very squeaky, would illicit a response from him. he got up in the middle of the night with us, and spent many nights sleeping on the couch with my mom and cooper.

b on the other hand was very aloof. he was the only one in the house who slept through the night. he was curious when cooper squeaked, but not overly concerned by his presence in the house. that is until he was gone. he didn't know what happened or where he went, but he knew it was bad. he tried to absorb our grief and sadness. both dogs were depressed for some time after coopers death.

s would often accompany me into the nursery, but b stayed out. until recently that is......lately b has been coming into the nursery, sniffing every inch of the room and looking in every corner. he even stood on his hind legs to peer into the crib to see if cooper was in there. knowing the mentality and behavior of pyrs, i sure that he thinks it is his fault that cooper is gone, that he somehow didn't do his job and that he lost him.

i am also certain that he knows that i am pregnant again. he has been my constant shadow and nudges me with his nose in the middle of the night to make sure that i am ok. if he is not sleeping on my side of the bed, he is sleeping in front of the nursery. if he could talk, he would tell me in a big booming voice that he will be more vigilant this time around and that he is very excited to meet the bean. as for s, well i am sure that he will be as watchful as ever.

it will be interesting to see how their canine behavior continues to manifest itself over the next few months and once the bean arrives....
