have you noticed the explosion of mascara commercials lately?
they all claim to give you super long, super lush, model like eyelashes.
now i do like makeup, i do not wear alot of it, but i like it. if that makes sense.
i do not like wearing make up in the summer, with the exception of mascara.
for the last couple of year i have been using diorshow black out mascara.
i love it. but i do not love its $24.00 price tag.
this week i fell victim to the glam lash hype.
and bought maybelline's volum express mascara.
it promises to make my eyelashes look like "falsies"
well, i wore "falsies" when i got married
and this doesn't really look like the same thing.
i will continue to use it, but i don't know if i will run out to replace it.
however, i do like the $6.99 price tag.
what kind of mascara do you use?

not feeling green
Wednesday, March 17, 2010
i am not a big fan of st. patty's day. i am sure i have some irish blood in me somewhere, and i know that precious husband has some. but i am not one to dress in green or eat corn beef and cabbage today.
don't get me wrong, i have tried to get into the spirit over the years by drinking green beer, sporting some shade of green and even participating in a st patty's day pub crawl when i lived in breckenridge after college. but to me, its just another day.
when i think of st. patrick's day, i am immediately transported to my childhood. i was in the first or second grade at south elementary in brownwood texas. i loved clothes from a very early age. i can even tell you what my first piece of ralph lauren clothing was, a very definitive moment in a young girl's life. it was a sunday evening and i was standing in my closet, on elizabeth drive, looking at my clothes, trying to decided what to wear to school the next day. not liking any of my options, i complained to my mother that i didn't have any thing to wear, bad move on my part. she decided that she was going to try to break my budding fashionista spirit and teach me a valuable lesson. she told me that i could have two outfits to wear all week, and then i would really know what it was like not to have any clothes. talk about humiliating. she picked out two izod outfits that were similar in style, but different colors, one was pink and one was green. they consisted of pants and a striped short sleeve shirt. she held true to her word and made me wear those two outfits all week to school.
i remember that this lesson happened to fall on st. patrick's day and i was very glad that one of my outfits was green so that i wouldn't get pinched by some boy or made fun for not wearing green.
i am not sure if her lesson worked. i still complain about not having anything to wear, that is after all a fashionista's prerogative. but maybe i didn't complain as loudly or maybe i was a little more appreciative of the clothes that were hanging in my closet.
happy st. patty's day to those of you who celebrate the color green!

i have a thing for sunglasses. they bring out my inner celebrity. there is something about a fabulous pair of sunglasses that can make you feel like a rock star, even if you are simply going grocery shopping.
unfortunately, like many things in my life, i have expensive taste in sunglasses. and not to be a brand whore, but prada sunglasses are my eye accessory of choice. ok, who i am kidding, i am a bit a of brand whore. i have two pairs, one i bought several years ago, i think i used grocery money, because i had to have them (don't worry i was single and could afford to skip a few meals) and the second pair i got a few summers ago in greece ( they are much cheaper in europe, even with the awful exchange rate). i love both pairs equally. and would like to add this pair to my little sunglasses family.
today, for the first time this year, i wore my sunglasses because the sun was out and it was bright (the grey skies have returned). when you live in a place where the winters are long and grey you rejoice when you have to wear your sunglasses. it is a happy day when the sun glares into your eyes off the white snow. and somehow, when the sun is shining the cold does not seem so bad. and for a brief moment i was a rock star, or at least i was in my head.
boots

i have a love affair with boots, all kinds of boots, but my favorite type of boot is the cowboy boot. (yes, those boots are mine). there is nothing better than your favorite pair of jeans, a hand knit sweater and a broken in pair of cowboy boots. people, there isn't a more comfortable shoe out there.
but cowboy boots are a little hard to wear when your pregnant and have swollen feet. so whats a girl to do, you ask? wear uggs. i never i thought i would be a ugg wearing kind of girl, but once i bought my first pair i was totally convinced they were the next best thing to my beloved cowboy boots. i lived in them last winter and suspect that i will this winter since i will be preggo most of the winter months. i don't like house shoes, and prefer to wear shoes all day even if i never leave the house, so my uggies are perfect! i guess that's why i have six, yes six pairs of uggs. although i will be down a pair because my precious husband is threatening to toss, no burn a pair because they smell from over use, or so he says.
this is my newest pair that the ups man brought to me today. it makes me look forward to the cold weather.
whats your favorite shoe to wear?
